He has held faculty positions in public health and research at the Vanderbilt and Indiana Universities, taught public health measurements in China and in the Middle East and has served as the Chief of the National Health Policy Unit and is currently serving as Member Technical to the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Pakistan where he heads the Data, Evaluations and Evidence for Policy Unit, which seeks to bridge the gap between nationally available data and policy. He is also the Chief Knowledge Officer at Research and Development Solution, a Pakistani research group.
