FP2030 is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alain Damiba as the Managing Director for the North, West, and Central Africa Regional Hub.

Dr. Damiba is an international public health professional with more than 25 years of clinical, programmatic, and executive management experience. Most recently, Dr. Damiba served as a Senior Health Advisor at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in West Africa, leading the regional health program, specifically the family planning, maternal health and nutrition portfolio, and supporting country initiatives and coordinating relationships with donors and regional institutions. His primary areas of expertise are maternal health, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS, both as a clinician and a manager of service delivery programs.

Dr. Damiba has extensive experience in health program development and strategic planning, and implementation in developing countries. He has devoted significant effort to the management of large, complex programs in numerous countries, including a regional $50 million program funded by USAID.

Dr. Damiba has held a number of senior positions during his time in the sector: Deputy Director for Monitoring and Evaluation, Regional Director for West Africa, Director of Training and Team Leader for the regional West and Central African Family Health and AIDS Prevention project, Vice President for International Program Operations, and Vice President for Global Business Development and Communications.

“I am delighted to join the North, West, and Central Africa team during such a critical time for the movement for rights-based family planning,” said Dr. Damiba. “We know in this region and beyond, women are a powerful force and when they have the tools and information they need to make their own decisions about fertility, entire countries benefit.”

Dr. Samukeliso Dube, executive director of FP2030, congratulated Dr. Damiba and welcomed him onboard, “Dr. Damiba’s passion for maternal health and experience in HIV/AIDS are major assets to FP2030’s global network as well as to the entire family planning sector as we continue to build authentic partnerships beyond the family planning sector.”

The North, West, and Central Africa Regional Hub, hosted by Population Council Nigeria, has already seen much progress in the region since its launch in 2022, and can now double down on that progress with renewed leadership.
