A Roadmap to Address Population & Development Challenges

After the independence of Pakistan, it has been noted that the decades of 1950, 60s and much of 70s can be regarded as spearheading towards global initiatives for eradication of diseases like malaria, small pox etc. However, the Alma Ata Conference on primary healthcare in 1978 marked the beginning of worldwide efforts on prevention and primary healthcare. These efforts got further impetus with convening of International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in September, 1994 at Cairo that pushed the agenda of integrating population issues with development.

Kenyan Counties Take Action to Prevent Teenage Pregnancies

Four Kenyan counties have, for the first time, established multi-agency government task forces with action plans to address their high teenage pregnancy rates. The action plans commit to leverage resources for, address policy barriers to, and enhance efficiency in providing contraceptive information and services for young people aged 10 to 19. As of June 2019, the action plans are officially approved, and implementation is underway.

Zimbabwe should promote adolescent access to sexual health services

Although Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of contraceptive use in Southern Africa, sexually active adolescents who wish to protect themselves against sexually transmitted illnesses and unwanted pregnancies are not accessing them because of inconsistencies with current laws and other social and economic barriers.

Politics and Family Planning in Nepal

At the Family Planning Summit in London, July 2017, the government of Nepal reaffirmed its Family Planning 2020 commitments made in 2015. In an attempt to ensure that women throughout the country have access to the full range of contraceptive options, the government intends to increase their family planning budget by 7 percent each year.
