VietnamHà Nội, 09 June 2025 – The Government of Viet Nam, represented by the Ministry of Health (MoH), supported by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Vietnam, officially launched Vietnam’s commitment to FP2030, a global partnership that works to advance rights-based and voluntary family planning.
Held in the Viet Nam Population Authority (VNPA)’s Office in Hanoi, the launch event brought together high-level representatives from the Ministry of Health, several other ministries, the Central Youth Union, the Viet Nam Women’s Union, development partners, civil society organizations, and youth representatives.
In its FP2030 commitment, Viet Nam has pledge to:
- Improve access to modern contraceptive services
- Reduce unwanted pregnancy among adolescents and youth
- Strengthen the quality of family planning services
- Strengthen the provision of non-clinical contraceptives
- Strengthen the provision of clinical family planning services at the commune and district levels
- Strengthen information, education and communication activities to mobilize people to accept and use family planning services and contraception
- Ensure resources for provision of quality family planning services
FP2030 plays a pivotal role in aligning global commitments with national priorities, including the goals outlined in Viet Nam’s Population Strategy toward 2030. It supports the harmonization of efforts among national development plans and sectoral strategies to strengthen family planning programs locally and globally. The initiative focuses on ensuring the availability, readiness, diversity, safety, and equitable access to quality family planning services — including for unmarried couples and young people, to address unmet needs and respond to the growing demand, thereby accelerating progress in achieving Viet Nam’s family planning objectives.
Sumita Banerjee, Managing Director, FP2030 Asia and the Pacific Hub, congratulated Vietnam’s milestone, saying: “Viet Nam’s FP2030 commitment reflects bold leadership and a people-first vision. This initiative will help reduce unmet need for family planning, prevent adolescent pregnancies, empower youth, and safeguard the reproductive rights of women and girls across the country.”
“Viet Nam’s FP2030 commitment is not just about services — it’s about dignity, equity, and enabling all people to make informed choices about their bodies and lives. With the support of UNFPA and partners, we are accelerating progress to ensure no one is left behind, especially youth and ethnic minority women.” Dr. Phan Thị Liên Hương, Deputy Minister of Health, said in his remarks.
“Safe and voluntary family planning is a human right. It’s the cornerstone of gender equality, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. Today’s commitment shows Viet Nam’s continued leadership in putting people — and their rights — at the heart of national development.” Matt Jackson, UNFPA Representative in Viet Nam, amplified the call in her remarks.
Viet Nam’s commitment to FP2030 will help prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce maternal mortality, and make a better future for the population of Viet Nam, that can be made possible by family planning.
