As the global community gathers for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79), FP2030 is proud to be part of pivotal discussions and events focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

These events are opportunities to amplify our commitment to advancing SRHR globally and to work in partnership with governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders to achieve our shared goals. Below are the events where FP2030 will be participating, co-hosting, or leading discussions: 

Building Transnational Solidarity and Targeted Action for Equity in Health: Bridging the Gap on Maternal Health for Women and Girls of African Descent

Hosts/Co-Hosts: Universal Access Project (UAP), UNFPA, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)

Event Description: This open high-level event will address the disproportionate maternal health challenges faced by women and girls of African descent. The discussion will focus on building transnational solidarity, strengthening health care systems, and mobilizing support for intersectional approaches to improve maternal health outcomes.

Summit of the Future Action Days

Hosts/Co-Hosts: United Nations 

Event Description: The Secretary-General of the United Nations is convening the Summit of the Future Action Days on September 20 and 21, 2024, at the UN Headquarters in New York to foster engagement from a wide range of stakeholders, including Member States, civil society, the private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, and youth. The event will begin with a youth-led session and will feature a Saturday program focused on digital technology, peace and security, and sustainable development and financing, with a particular emphasis on future generations.

Climate Chaos, SRHR Crisis: Weaving a Web of Strength, Solutions and Solidarity 

Hosts/Co-Hosts: International Youth Alliance for Family Planning (IYAFP), FP2030, Population Council, SRHR & Climate Justice Coalition

Event Description: This open side event at the Summit of the Future will bring together global advocates to explore the intersection of SRHR and climate justice. The event builds on the Youth Declaration launched at UNFCCC COP28 and aims to foster partnerships and amplify youth voices advocating for a holistic approach to these interconnected issues.

Generation Equality Action Coalition on Bodily Autonomy and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

Hosts/Co-Hosts: Fos Feminista, ARROW, Pathfinder, Women Enabled International, FP2030, and others

Event Description: This closed meeting will focus on leveraging the political momentum of ICPD30 and the Pact for the Future to position SRHR at the forefront of the Beijing+30 agenda and Agenda 2030. The event aims to advance SRHR priorities and build solidarity to safeguard bodily autonomy and gender equality in global political processes.

Choose Choice: Securing Reproductive Choice for the Next Generation

Event Description: This high-level closed reception on the eve of the Summit of the Future will reaffirm global commitment to SRHR, focusing on access for young people and future generations.

Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Advancing the Agenda for a Sustainable Future

Hosts/Co-Hosts: Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), FP2030, WHO, Guttmacher Institute, UN Women

Event Description: This closed side event will focus on the progress and challenges in adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRH), particularly for very young adolescents. The event will include high-level dialogue, technical insights, and youth-led discussions aimed at advancing ASRH in line with ICPD30 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Investing in the Future: Unlocking Sustainable Financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health

Hosts/Co-Hosts: FP2030, UNFPA, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF)

Event Description: This high-level closed event will bring together global leaders, youth activists, donors, and business leaders to mobilize new commitments for sustainable SRH financing. The event will emphasize the strategic role of SRH financing in advancing the SDGs and showcase new commitments from governments and donors to support sustainable, country-led SRH financing.

Foreign Policy Podcast: Her Power @ UNGA79

Hosts/Co-Hosts: FP2030, Population Institute

Event Description: This open forum will explore tangible solutions and actions to advance women’s equity and leadership, featuring global gender experts, policymakers, and practitioners. The event will culminate in the premiere of a short documentary from the Population Institute and a networking cocktail reception.
