FP2030 is excited to announce the appointment of Sumita Banerjee as the Managing Director for FP2030's Asia and Pacific Regional Hub. With an extensive background spanning over two decades, Sumita brings a wealth of experience in public health, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-transformative policies, and HIV programs.

Born and raised in India, Sumita’s professional journey has taken her across three continents, offering her unique insights and expertise. She has worked globally and regionally, providing expert policy and program guidance that has left a lasting impact on the field of public health.

Most recently, Sumita served as the Executive Director of Action for AIDS in Singapore, the largest national independent provider of sexual health and HIV programs. Her leadership played a pivotal role in advancing sexual health initiatives and HIV prevention strategies.

She contributed significantly to Plan International UK, offering technical guidance to adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights programs across multiple countries. Her leadership also led the organization's participation in the London Summit on Family Planning in 2012.

Sumita expressed her excitement on joining the movement, " Aligned to the vision of FP2030, the Asia and Pacific Hub provides a critical pathway to support countries in strengthening partnerships across multiple stakeholders toward ensuring that adolescent girls and women have access to information, tools, and services to meet their reproductive choices. Women’s empowerment and equal economic participation are critical to the accelerated development that many countries in the region are aiming for, and this will not be possible without a renewed focus and commitment to the family planning needs, especially of young people, which the regional hub is in a good position to guide."

In her welcome remarks, FP2030's Executive Director Dr. Samukeliso Dube says: "We are delighted to welcome Sumita Banerjee to lead our Asia and Pacific Hub. This region, home to 60% of the world's population, faces significant challenges in family planning and reproductive health. With Sumita's exceptional experience and leadership, I am confident that the Asia and Pacific hub is well-positioned to address these challenges and drive positive change. As we continue our mission to accelerate access to modern contraception and improve reproductive healthcare, we look forward to collaborating closely with Sumita and the entire Asia and Pacific team."

With the addition of Sumita, the Asia and Pacific Hub is now well staffed and working with partners and commitment makers across the region to advance family planning. Sumita joins Dakshitha Wickremaranthe, Senior Tehnical Lead, Advocacy & Partnerships; Dr. Jameel Zamir, Country Engagement Advisor (South & East Asia); Jofiliti Veikoso, Country Engagement Advisor (Pacific); Sadia Rahman, Manager, Youth and Adolescent Partnerships; and Salman Khalid, Manager, Communications.

The Asia and Pacific Hub, hosted by the IPPF ESEAOR office in Malaysia, aims to accelerate access to modern, voluntary contraception and improve reproductive healthcare for all, especially women and girls in the region. As one of the five regional hubs established by FP2030, the hub is dedicated to driving commitments, fostering collaboration, and advocating for family planning across communities, countries, and the region. With a strong emphasis on country support, data analysis, and evidence-based decision-making, the hub is committed to tailoring actions to achieve FP2030's strategic goals in the Asia and Pacific region.
