Communicating Uncertainty

Countries in the FP2020 partnership produce and report estimates annually to monitor progress on their family planning goals and commitments.

These estimates are based on FP2020’s 18 Core Indicators, which measure various family planning usage and access dimensions. However, countries often need help working with data, particularly in understanding uncertainty in estimates. Many family planning data sources publish uncertainty ranges around their estimates. By gaining a greater understanding of these ranges, countries can better assess the precision of their data, understand changes in key family planning indicators, and evaluate whether country-level policies and programs are resulting in progress toward their goals.
